In the second middle of the month of May in Isfara, apricots ripen and early varieties of apricots entered the trade network of the Republic of Tajikistan. In supermarkets and large markets, this popular fruit is sold today at a price of 12-18 somoni ($1.00-1.60) per 1 kg. Also, farmers have begun exporting this fruit.
An early apricot variety, called “Maysky”, ripens in this month and is distinguished by good transportability. It is this variety, cultivated in many regions of Tajikistan, that is most of all exported fresh outside the country. Other varieties such as “Subhoni”, “Isfarak”, “Nishoni”, “Tojiboyi” “Boboi” and many other varieties are exported mainly in dried and processed form.
The earliest apricot ripened in the southern regions of Tajikistan, but the main place of its cultivation is the Ferghana Valley and, including its part, located on the territory of the Sughd region. In many areas, many years of experience in growing, processing and exporting apricots have been accumulated. This product takes a confident first place among the fruits exported by the republic. The importing countries of the Tajik apricot are Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Ukraine, the United Arab Emirates, Iraq, Japan, USA, Canada and the countries of European Union.
